We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Douro for four nights recently. We felt very welcome when Luis came to meet us at the train station late at night even though it was cold and he then drove us to a local restaurant (Cais da Foz) that he had called ahead to so that we could have dinner after our long train journey. The rooms are not huge but they are super clean and comfortable and it was lovely that Luis had already turned on the heat for us so that it was warm when we arrived. The view from room 9 on the top floor in the morning was incredible! Pedro was super helpful in the mornings giving us plenty of tips about local hiking trails and wineries and then even other towns that we should visit on our travels. They were both super lovely and their mother and helpers made a lovely simple and filling breakfast for us each morning with a different home made cake each day. This was an excellent choice as we didn't have a car so the location was super convenient to get to plenty of attractions and local hikes. If you stay here make sure you do the hikes up to Provesende & Casal de Loivos. Also eat dinner at restaurant Cais da Foz, eat lunch at Pao Com Sabor and do a tasting at Quinta do Bomfim.

Hotel Douro opposite railway station, at night quiet location, ask for Petro very nice fellow, hotel is well worth its money as budget hotel
For a One Star hotel, it had everything you would hope for - clean rooms, hot water, daily towel and sheet change AND breakfast (for an extra 5). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Peter and Louis are fantastic hosts making sure we knew what restaurants to try out - especially for budget friendly travelers - and what to do (NOTE: I highly recommend the open top bus tour. If you're fortunate enough, as we were, to be the only ones on the bus Fernando makes the trip that much more enjoyable). Close to three wineries this is a great location to check out the Douro valley if all you want is a place to store your gear, sleep and have a hot shower, this is it!
Great little hotel located right across from the train station (don't worry, the trains don't come at night). Rooms were clean and everything you would need for a short stay in Pinhao. We were lucky enough to get a room with a balcony overlooking the Douro River and the Vineyards across the water. If you are not picky, opt for the 5 Euro breakfast (croissants, ham, cheese, coffee, juice, fruit) that they provide. It was quick and easy. If you are looking for a more filling breakfast, there are plenty of restaurants around. Pedro was quick to respond to any questions and bookings. His brother, that met us at the reception gave some great food recommendations. Overall, both very lovely hosts.
This hotel is charming and conveniently located. Luis and Peter a super hosts. They know all of the what the area has to offer and can guide you to whatever you wish to do. We wanted a balcony on the 2nd floor. They gave us two options - a large bed (a US double bed) with a small balcony, or a couple of twin beds with a larger balcony with a table and chairs. We’re bigger than a double, and we wanted the bigger balcony. so we chose the two twin beds. The room was musty, but once the window and doors were opened, the mustiness went away. Everything was clean and neat. The shower was great. We both would like a hook or two on the bathroom door for hanging towels, clothes, or travel case, but this is a minor thing to overcome. Breakfast was basic but good. Luis and Peter put this experience over the top. Thank you!
We where 2 nights at the Douro Hotel. We felt like at home. Peter, his brother, and their parents where very friendly. Breakfast was super! You must for example try mothers selfmade marmelades ( compots)... they have the most comfortable beds and pillows we ever had in our whole trip through Portugal. Peter and his family made everything to make our stay very pleasant. They also gave us very good tips for restaurants, boat trips and excursions to other cities. We can recommend this hotel very much!!!!
Charming hotel across the street from the historic train station. Perfect location with a beautiful breakfast and amazingly friendly hosts (family hotel). Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Wonderful stay. I was treated like royalty and as a solo female traveler, that’s rare...the room was fantastic and spotlessly clean. Breakfast buffet was delicious. A superb value for the money. The view of the river and valley was breathtaking to make the entire stay unforgettable.
