Update: 11 July 2018 - Warning! When I used this car park today I noticed that that the Nene Park Trust had erected Pay machines. The sign said, ' Free for 1 hour then 2.50 up to 24hrs'. So - soon to be no longer free. There are bus stops on Thorpe Road just 3 minutes walk from the car park. The number 2 bus runs every 10 minutes. This is a quite large car park near the Peterborough City Rowing Club and opposite the Dragonfly Hotel, Thorpe Meadows. It does not belong to either of these institutions although is often used as an overflow for both. It is a public car park and - in the many, many times H and I have used it - it has never been full. H and I often park-up there and walk the mile or so along the river - via the newly-laid footpath - into the city centre (we emerge at Asda). Walking in the other direction - alongside the rowing lake - will take you to Orton Mere and further - beside the the river and the golf course - all the way to Ferry Meadows.

We use the rowing lakes regularly for a pleasant short walk at the heart of Peterborough. The car park is large and safe (although there are often some dubious characters hanging about their cars in the evenings). It recently starting charging but the first hour is free and that's long enough to walk around the lake (but not long enough to do the nature reserve as well).

Came here in the middle of the night with my friend while following a police helicopter. Stayed until sunset as it was so calming and relaxing place.
