This is one of my favourite restaurants in the world and the only one in England that I felt the urge to go to two days in a row during my vacation in Penzance. Oh did I say they have the best oysters in the continent? Tried 4 the first night and they were so fresh, fleshy and frankly huge, and the vinegar dressing so delicate I had to have 6 the day after. The bread and butter are out of this world and the mussels made my week. Also, the fried doughnuts with condensed milk ice cream were indulgent, to say the least. Only regret is not having been able to thank the people who make these marvels in person. Also it is an unassuming, laid back cozy pub with excellent service and very reasonable prices. I can’t wait to go back.

FRESH FRESH FRESH AND VERY VERY TASTY!!!! Leading the fresh food fish and crustaceans way in Newlyn Matt is cooking 21st century plates that truly put the Tolcarne Inn at the top of the West Country dining scene. Uber fresh ingredients cooked incredibly well without fuss or fanfare. Shame on you Padstow !

Lovely food! The oysters were huge and delicious. Starters (battered ray & salted cod fritters were excellent) Mains (Plaice & Hake) were sufficient, nicely plated & lovely flavours. We had dessert too (the cinnamon doughnuts). Scrumptious and huge portion. We’ll back next year.

The restaurant and staff were lovely. It was clean and well spaced. Lovely environment for a meal. We chose bread and olives to share. The bread was amazing, Plentiful, homemade and tasty. The Olives were not tasty / don’t know why. The plaice dish my partner described as ok. The beetroot made the dish. It was well-presented. The reason I scaled low was- The vegetarian dish chosen was well-presented but disappointing. And too expensive. Fine beans, dill (plenty), nuts, new potato and a fried egg. For 14:50. Honestly? Beans alone are not a main course. Neither are courgettes. Really- It should have had something cooked for vegetarian. An omelette would have been better. You’re always going to get the odd vegetarian eating with the fish/meat eater so it’s worth investing in them. After this it felt like we were forgotten. No-one asked us if we wanted a sweet or cheese course (8) and we asked for the bill.
