I heard about Lowther before coming to Lake District, I read great comments on both Google Maps and Tripadvisor so I booked in advanced. Since we are still in tier 2 and it was an early misty Sunday morning, the castle was literally empty, just for us to explore its gardens and history. The place is absolutely gorgeous, the story of the Lowther family is amazing and it is clearly explained as you moved through the castle, the cafe is cozy and the gardens -on a rainy cold morning- were truly beautiful. Can't wait to see this place in summer.

Fantastic place for adults and kids. Gardens are lovely and large enough to spend a good few hour's wondering round, or just pick a spot on one of the many benches with fabulous views. Personally I think its worth the visit just for the play area! And not just for the kid's but the adults too!(I saw plenty of lets say 'grandparents' even having a walk around in the play Castle maze of walkways) Dog friendly place, allowed in all areas (unfortunately they can't join in with the play area fun though ) didn't use the cafe but looked lovely.

Loved it even in the rain. Interesting extensive gardens. Fab Castle adventure area even for 54 year olds! History and ruinous Castle fascinating. Great day out on my birthday.
