Pearl Liang Reviews | Rating 4,1 out of 5 stars

Pearl Liang is located in London, United Kingdom on 8 Sheldon Square, Paddington. Pearl Liang is rated 4.1 out of 5 in the category chinese restaurant in United Kingdom. Pearl Liang restaurant is part of the smart new Paddington Waterside development in Paddington Central. This classy, contemporary Chinese restaurant creates an authentically Oriental vibe with water features, bamboo and a room-length painting of Chinese blossom branches. With soft lighting and red seating, it’s a pretty glamorous setting to tuck into soft shell crab with garlic and chilli or to clear your tubes with crispy shredded beef in spicy red hot sauce. And if you’ve gone through life so far without trying Buddha Jump Over The Wall, now’s your chance. Dim sum is served all day, there’s a funky bar and the music is cool.

Not bad, could be better. Came here to try the lobster noodle based on another Google review. I don't eat lobster noodles lot but do eat lots of noodles in South East Asia. I would say the cooking was very average. The lobster itself was fine but the cooking itself was lacking. I would say the preparation lacks finess. Two examples were the ginger and celery that were cut quite thickly to the extent it makes not a great meal. The celery being thicker felt slightly underdone and you're not supposed to taste the celery. Of all the times I've eaten Chinese noodles, this is the first time I haven't enjoyed the ginger and managed to have celery stand out for the wrong reason. It would be 2 stars for that but the taro dome with monk vegetables was delicious and well cooked. Not sure why it's a dome. I'm more familiar with it as a deep fried yam ring. Wish it was deeper and taller but delicious and wanted more. Which is all you want from a restaurant!

Bit of a weird place. The pork skin, the hardest thing to get right, was almost perfect. It was crispy, and no hint of chewy fat. The duck tasted good as well. However, the fried rice was really soggy and wet. The vegetables were tasteless! No idea where they get their “garlic sauce” from, but it tasted like water. The pork flesh had a weird taste. Finally, service was poor. It doesn’t matter that you dress in suits if we have to wait 10 minutes for a glass of water. 10 minutes for a spoon and another 20 minutes for the bill... wouldn’t recommend.

An amazing place for family-style dining, you can’t really go too wrong with Pearl Liang. Top dishes are their lobster noodles and roast duck, both of which use quality ingredients and prime culinary styles. Heavenly is the word I’d use to describe them both. Service is attentive with some lapses because they’re running around so much. Ambience is nice and welcoming.

Although the service is good and polite, they are short staffed so it can be very slow. The food is mediocre, it is surviving because there are no real competition in the area. If you’re nearby, you would probably use it but not a place worth travelling to eat.

I won't say is authentic Cantonese but it's definitely Chinese style food slightly adjusted for local taste without losing its character. Overall the food is good and the atmosphere is much better than the greasy spoon old fashioned Chinese places in Chinatown. And they have real service.
