This place is pure magic. No frills - no problem. Amazing chopped pork sandwich with unique “slaw”. Don’t overlook the beans. They are fantastic. Super nice folks. Get a handmade pocket pie if they have them. Omg I miss this place.

The sandwiches are a great deal for what you pay. I thought they were a little heavy handed with the barbecue sauce and I wasn’t a huge fan of their mustard coleslaw, but the bits of meat that weren’t overpowered by the sauce were delicious and I liked the beans.

The BEST BBQ in Memphis! I had the Chopped Pork sandwich and my husband had the Rib plate. Both plates were served with their mustard based coleslaw and baked beans, and it was all so good! The pork was so moist and the ribs were fall off the bone tender. The sauce was amazing (we got hot). The coleslaw pairs so well with the bbq. It was so good! We will definitely be coming back here when we come to Memphis!

Payne's is the definition of 'no frills.' It is in a small roadside building where you eat at folding tables and makeshift chairs such as old church pews. The menu options are limited, but they are GOOD! Chopped pork is a specialty (you hear the chopping as soon as you walk in) so went with that. The sauce is tangy and vinegary. I do wish I would have asked for it on the side so I could taste the smokiness of the pork. The baked beans are hands down the best I've ever had. Not too sweet but rich and smoky. The slaw is mustard-ey and pairs well with the sauces. My husband got the smoked sausage. Had a bite and it had really good flavor. Table next to us got the fried bologna sandwich which also looked amazing.

Best ever BBQ in Memphis. Other BBQ places are ok. But seriously, after you taste Payne's, everyone else is 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Mic Drop !!!
