I don’t know what to say about this pub. I have been here multiple times for drinks and have really enjoyed myself. Yet going for food definitely brings the quality down. The service just deteriorates, the waiters are un attentive, I ask for cutlery to eat my food and one of the waiters questioned why I needed cutlery and what cutlery I needed. We went for pizza another time and we arrived at 6:30, the food arrived at 8:30, we left at 9. For the price of the food and not great quality food, I wouldn’t eat there again, but I would go there for a drink and for the views in the beer garden. I hope that helps. I’ve attached photos from my two visits when I’ve had food.

Delightfully quaint pub, very old in its own right, providing delicious food and drink at reasonable cost. It's community-owned, and an important focal and social point for this and surrounding villages. Friendly welcome and found it purely by chance, and very glad we did. By pure coincidence, this is where E Waugh drowned his sorrows, and reputedly where Lewis Carroll got the inspiration for the giant chessboard. Happy to recommend it.

Lovely meal out. We passed just by chance and were lucky to get a nice table for 2. The menu looked great, not just pub food, but a touch different, we will definitely be back the next time we pass

Fantastic community run and supported pub. Well worth a visit, especially by bike from Oxford. It's a great pit stop or destination. I had been dreaming of a cold cider and that's what I got. Plus Morris dancers:-)

Amazing venue. Lovely inside and incredible garden outside. Food was unbelievably good and I enjoyed it immensely! Fabulous.
