Chalgrove Airfield

Chalgrove Airfield is a former Second World War airfield in Oxfordshire, England. Opened in 1943, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces {USAAF]. The USAAF returned the airfield to the RAF on 01-Dec-1945. With the end of military control, Chalgrove Airfield was leased by the Ministry of Defence in 1946 to a private company called Martin-Baker who specialised in aviation matters but specifically in developing/testing ejection seats. NB: Between 2016 and 2020 local furore over an outline planning application to build a circa 3k unit housing-led mixed-use development on part of the Chalgrove Airfield airfield, as part of the South Oxfordshire District Council's Local Plan 2034 [as yet unresolved].
