Orkney College UHI

I went to Orkney College a couple of years ago to study an NC Administration course. Other than using the Business Department the cafe and occasionally the Overblikk which is the training restaurant for the Hospitality students, I didn't use any other part of the college. I really loved my time at college and I really miss it. I'm visually impaired and I have a guide dog. I found that the college was extremely flexible when it came to my accessibility needs for learning. Everything was provided either electronically or in large print and I was allowed extra time for tests and assessments. The staff were so friendly and helpful and we had a good laugh. They were excellent at giving me time to take my guide dog out to the toilet. The staff in the cafe were also extremely helpful and friendly. They would list off everything they had on the menu for me, take my lunch over to a table and remove a chair next to me to give my guide dog extra room under the table. The students who were studying in the Overblikk were trained to an extremely high standard and were taught how to serve food and drinks around an assistance dog. The course tutor even said to me once that having me and my guide dog in for meals was of great value to the students as they could take those skills out into the workplace. I can't fault anyone at the college at all. I really must look at going back to study further courses.
