I can't believe it's taken us so long to find Old Lodge Nature Reserve... I have been exploring the beautiful Ashdown Forest with more purpose this Winter and have regularly walked in many directions after parking at Friends Clump. You can see Old Lodge Stud in the distance and it always looked wonderful. It was only by mistake we found the small car park and entrance to the reserve. However, thank goodness we did it's just magical it feels like a real forest with commanding views of the Weald. There are good pathways and is child friendly but not so good for those without good mobility. Dogs must be on a short lead because of nesting birds from January 2nd - September 30th. Overall - if you already know the Forest but have never visited the Old Lodge Nature Reserve - you're in for a real treat. Highly recommended.....

I love the habitat here. You may not see much one day but another time it could be fabulous. Either way it's great appreciate the trees, and views, and peacefulness. For birds spring is probably best but there are always resident woodland and heathland species to see.

Fantastic for a quiet walk and for bird watching. Feels like parts of Scotland due to all the heather and Scots pine. Siskin, dartford warbler, stonecats and crossbills are all regular sightings.

Lovely place to walk, I saw Crossbills eating pine cones. They look like small red and green parrots, unusual sight for Sussex.

We were lucky with the weather for our visit here. The iews while you are walking around the reserve are beautiful. There are a couple of places where its quite a climb uphill for less mobile people. I was surprised to see 3 Green Woodpeckers come flying across in front of us. Lots of Stonechats and I saw a female Redstart, Ravens. Think I got a glimpse of a Woodlark. Definitely will go back again. Good for Dragonfly, Chasers etc and Butterflies.
