I don't know if this is common in European countries, but paying for parking was extremely convenient here. A camera takes a picture of your number plate when you enter and after you park, you go to the pay station and enter your plate number. The machine shows you a picture of your car and you insert your credit card. When you leave, another camera takes a picture and your card is charged for however long you spent there.
