Drove down from London, remembering a chip shop from waaaaay back in 1990 or thereabouts. Well, I found it and it was definitely worth the drive! Pie done perfectly (seriously scary how badly they are done in my local, never again!) and chips were excellent. Cooked fresh while I waited and pleasant staff. Thank you, I may make the 100 mile round trip again for dinner one day.

Fry off ! Rip Off , Visited The Branch on Sunday at around 5 .30 pm , it was not busy .I ordered a selection from their Menu , Been there a few times as we are locals resideints and its been generally good . However today I was disappointed in the so called LARGE Cod and fries . The cost at 6.40 , anyone would expect a decent size and crispy batter and hot . Waited a few minutes as there was none in the holding bin I asked for the Large Cod as this would be lovely and fresh . When the young lady at the counter asked us would you like salt and vinegar , I declined as this would ensure a soggy fish . She was very fast to box them up , to which I was interested to see the fish . I noticed the fish was small and around 6 oz and some but definitely not 8 oz as suggested by the cook . He said this size would depend on the water content in the fish , he also said they had issues with the sizes of the fillets that they have previously sold as they were a lot bigger . I was slightly confused with his giberish and excuses . Surely in this cut and throat business of Catering , I think its important to look after your customers to ensure a successful business long term and not fool the customer . I did also notice the shop inside was looking grubby , the stainless steel counter was dirty and the floor could have done with a good scrub . The rest of the orders seemed to be fine , however chips were slightly under cooked and not crispy .... Perhaps the shop name could be changed to sloppy Joe's .
