Serene nature reserve very accessible from Beeston and Chilwell. Something for everyone to enjoy; birds, wildlife, lakes, the river, watch sail boats and trains. Good parking, cafe and often ice cream van.

Wow what a walk, took all the paths and took 5 hours with a few short snack breaks. Loved the walk, really interesting and nice people. Be warned it can get busy but there is lots of room.
After a long walk or a short walk, the cafe is great. Their coffee is lovely. Attenborough nature reserve has got to be the best reserve in the UK.
As a child I spent many many hours camping and fishing in this beautiful place of nature. It probably saved my life as a child to be able to get away from home. I was mortified to learn that fishing is no longer allowed at this venue and that it's become overly commercialised. The UK eats around 480000 metric tonnes of fish. Any fish caught here are simply returned to the water. On the plus side it has become a haven for wildlife but if that was the aim it would be better if it was closed to the public so it could become a real natural habitat.
The car parks ask for donation of 3 and plenty of spaces. We parked a little away from the visitor centre but there was a footpath connecting to the visitor centre. The walk was very pleasant, quiet on a midweek (half term) rainy day. There were many bird spotting shelters and our fledging photographers enjoyed taking pictures of the many birds. The visited center has a small cafe.; Very clean with nice sandwiches but the milkshake and the hot chocolate was a little chemical taste. They were running on a reduced staffing and you may expect a little wait in the peak time. There was only one toilet available to the public, which was clean but the door stuck a little. Overall very pleasant visit.
