There's something special about Noor Jahan that not only attracts big-name eaters - Hugh Grant, Eric Clapton and Rowan Atkinson, but also a veritable army of devoted regulars who make a habit of dining there. Maybe it's the Chef specialities, like the special recipes for chicken, lamb, king prawns and duck, but also our own British invention of chicken tikka masala. Lunchtimes are slightly subdued with the business of the day, but evenings are more vivacious and warm. The decor is simple, the service welcoming, and the cooking convincing. No wonder Noor Jahan has been a local landmark for nearly forty years.

Reliable and excellent Indian restaurant, dishes of consistent high quality, delivered over a number of years, friendly staff with a loyal following amongst South Kensington residents, with good reason. Charming classic dining room. Looking for a takeaway idea on a cold winter evening, this is the place.

Unfortunately just not good enough. This is our second attempt to eat here, we'd like it to be good as it's close to home but it just disappoints. If Indian food is anything it should be flavoursome. When the coriander flavoured onions that come with the poppadoms are the tastiest part of the meal there's a problem. Starters manage somehow to be bland yet overly spicy. Main courses are oily and hot but without taste. Meat is dry. Rice is over cooked. The menus come in dated plastic that hasn't changed for years and the manager sits in the bar playing with the Internet and generally unengaged with his guests. Forget modern conveniences like WiFi. The location for Nor Jahan is excellent, the staff willing but the food stuck in the 1970s, and the management team in the 1950s.They should fire the management and then chef and start again. With the famous place around the corner they should clear up. Instead we're all clearing out.

I have been going here for many years. I am yet to find a better Indian restaurant. Amazing food, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Definitely worth a try!

A.local institution. So good you probably need to book to be assured.of a seat. Food is just how i love it with a fantastic mix of old school favorites and new things to try. Long may it continue
