De Bastei is het nieuwe centrum voor natuur en cultuurhistorie in Nijmegen. De Bastei is gehuisvest in een spectaculair nieuw gebouw dat op en rond de 16e eeuwse verdedigingstoren is gebouwd. Duik het museum in en ga op reis door verleden, heden en toekomst. Hier, aan de Waal en in de oudste stad van Nederland raak je het verleden aan, ontdek je de flora en fauna van het Gelderse rivierengebied en ga je aan de slag in De Bastei Academie. Beleef hoe de rivier hier stad en natuur verbindt! Bewonder Romeinse en Middeleeuwse vondsten die met veel vernuft zijn verwerkt in het gebouw. Via de glazen erker en buiten op het glazen balkon van het Bastei Café, kun je onder het genot van een hapje en een drankje genieten van het mooiste uitzicht van Nijmegen. Je kijkt uit over de rivier en de uiterwaarden. In het Entreegebouw zit het Infocentrum Gelderse Poort van Staatsbosbeheer. We zijn zeven dagen per week open van 100 tot 170 uur. Het Entreegebouw en het Bastei Café zijn dan vrij te bezoeken. Voor het museum gelden entreeprijzen. Met de Museumjaarkaart is de toegang gratis. Kijk voor meer informatie op: www.debastei.nl

A trip through the history of nijmegen. A great place to go if you want to know more of the history of this beautiful city. A nice fact : Nijmegen is the oldest city of the Netherlands.

Pannekoek Stroop

An unexpected treasure... The real gem here is the architecture, and it would be nice if the museum was a little more clear on the design idea and connections with historical details etc when you enter. It was fascinating to be able to see the city from below and travel back in time, although the projections were a little childish they served their goal of presenting historical context well. The nature exhibits... Were well-designed but lacked a bit of depth and interactivity. The one about de Waal was very impressive and had these elements. The personell is super welcoming and friendly, from the entrance to the rooftop cafe (with an amazing view!!!) they will make your visit complete :) The only negative was the shop, i think by Staatsbosbeheer? I personally don't think its okay to have a museum based on science, history and nature and to sell unscientific 'zweefteefparafernalia' like aura stones and such nonsense, but that's might me my problem.

We went here to kill some time but afterwards we should’ve just planned to go here. It was really informative of the original Roman city and structures. We had a really nice time here.

A relatively new opened museum in nijmegen. Located just at the side of waal river. Its contains collection that shows history of the fort and its surroundings natural biodiversity. On the top floor there is a cafe that will serve you cold drinks, some cakes and beautiful view towards the river and the bridge.
