This is the best, and one of the few remaining, eal\ pubs in Newbury town centre. It's cheap, cosy and the staff are excellent. The pool table is brilliant and exceptionally well maintained by the landlord and there are always friendly people playing if you fancy a bit of competition. The locals are a friendly bunch and the music is constant and varied, but never so loud you can't have a decent conversation without shouting. Live bands are regularly in on Saturday nights and are always worth a listen. All major sporting events are displayed on the 3 large TVs and the horse racing is on all day every day on at least one screen. Definitely well worth a try if you haven't already. It's even on the way into town from the train station, so nice and easy to get to. Love it.

THE WORST PUB IN THE WHOLE OF THE COUNTRY! I visited this derelict pub last week and was absolutely shocked at what it had to offer. Not only was there piles of rubbish in the uncleaned fire place, but the toilets were an absolute shambles with one urineale blocked and overspilling with urine, no toilet roll to be seen anywhere and the towel to dry looked as though it was weeks old - you had to wash your hands after using the towel! As well as this, a barman was sat on his computer reluctantly responding to his needy customers. All i can say is thank God that they don't offer food, as the hygiene levels here are truly shocking and revolting! When i am back in Newbury I will certainly not be coming back here.
