What a sweet little shop!! I stopped here with my family on a recent trip to Block Island.. We were visiting the animals on the property and walked into the North Light Fibers shop to see what was inside.. We were greeted by a lovely young woman working there who had a very warm personality and answers for all of our (many) questions.. My children are really into needle felting and were very impressed with their selection of beautiful naturally died wool.. They have partnered with Udruzene, an association of talented Bosnian women, to whom they send raw materials and are sent back the most beautiful handmade items.. It’s part of an effort to empower and employ women from that war torn region.. If that sounds as amazing to you as it does to me, google them (Udruzene) and check them out!! North Light Fibers has a range of many beautiful clothing items, as well as jewelry, salves and kits and supplies for knitting and handcrafting your own!! If you’re the arts and crafts type and you find yourself on Block Island, make sure you visit North Light Fibers.. You will not be disappointed!!

The guys are out fishing-- what are you to do?... Who would have thought that this little gem would be in the midst of the Island fun.. For those of us who are fiber freaks.. seeing the alpaca, yak and llamas on site is tempting,, and then you walk into the show room so that you can touch and feel all of the beautiful fiber after it's been spun into yarn... but it doesn't end there-- go upstairs and see how it's done.. from picking and carding, dyeing and spinning all in one space. This will interest everyone- kids, guys everyone-- to see the mechanics behind the product. Yarns for sale are not your average off the shelf product. Once you feel the yarn your imagination will take hold.. And for those who do not knit or weave,,never fear! Laura and Sven have recruited extremely talented artists to provide finished pieces for you. Enjoy the day-- a great destination target for a day trip to the Island..

North Light Fibers is Block Island's best hidden treasure, but it should be on every visitor's to-do list! Even if you're not a knitter or yarn lover, visiting the farm and mill is still worth the short walk from the ferry landing. The farm is home to so many cute animals - some expected (alpacas, sheep, goats), and many not (donkeys, camels, and a yak, to name a few!) - all of whom are very friendly! The free mill tour is really cool - you get to learn all about different types of fibers and see the machines in action. And if you are a yarn lover, North Light Fibers has a great selection of their gorgeous yarn for sale in their shop on the ground floor of the mill. Trust me, the farm is a must, and I can't wait to visit again!

I had such a wonderful time visiting the mill the animals are beautiful (camels, yak, alapca, llama, goats and sheep, oh and kangaroos and lemurs). and the mill tour was fascinating. Block Island is such a beautiful setting for this fabulous business. Well worth a visit!!
