My dear friend lost her husband suddenly Saturday afternoon. This was a devastating loss to her and the family. She was insensitively called by the New England Organ Bank at 7:00 am the following morning! The woman from New England Organ Bank went through numerous questions lasting approximately 45 minutes with my friend to possibly harvest some of her husband’s organs to no avail and no respect for my friend! This call came totally unexpectedly and unwanted! Had the caller asked my grieving friend at the beginning of the call if her husband wanted to be an organ donor the conversation would’ve been much shorter. Better yet, my grieving friend should’ve been asked at the hospital if her husband wanted to be an organ donor, and if he did, could the New England Organ Bank phone her to discuss harvesting any organs that might be possible. My friend would have expected the call or she would’ve told the hospital I don’t want to be contacted by the New England Organ Bank. Simple as that! My friend was highly upset and devastated by this disrespectful organization all day and this is in the midst of her unbelievable grief! Had my friend been asked about organ donor at the time of her husband’s death this would’ve prevented this terribly intrusive, highly insensitive phone call at 7:00 am the morning following my friend’s husband’s death!! Highly disrespectful and rude!!
