Beautiful arboretum, perfect for enjoying walks, having picnics and enjoying nature. Depending on the season you visit, the colours, texture and shapes you will see. Some routes are easy but a few can be steep. The picnic tables and some playground are closed due to covid. The paths are marked but should have more marks as you'll lose your track many times. Yet, it's worth a visit!

Colourful, relaxing and calming! Did 2 of the 3 walks....spent nearly 4 hours here (incl lunchtime!). Cheerful staff welcome you and direct you to the parking area on entering the property. Good cafe with food, socially distanced tables with sanitizer at entrance.
The topography of this place spread across a hillside with it's lake, valley, streams and shaded paths provides for the almost perfect arboreal environment. No hesitation in giving the place 5 stars. Go on a bright sunny day to get the best of the vibrant greens from the foliage and the dabbled light dancing on the paths. This is truly a magical place. Plenty of benches to rest on and enjoy the view. Some of the paths are steep and with steps, so are not suited to pushchairs, wheelchairs or mobility scooters. At the start of the trails, there are toilets and a Caffè, take water with you particularly if doing the longer walk. Little wooden bridges cross streams at several points and the lake has a variety of wild fowl. Love this place, will visit again sometime.
Despite being a long standing and avid NT supporter, this was my first visit to this very popular venue. It is ideal for all the family to spent 2-3 hours strolling through the beautiful woodlands and across meadowland alongside the lake. The earlier higher paths offer some spectacular distant views whilst the much lower valley paths offer pretty lakeside views. Autumn colours abound through Oct and Nov. Reputedly Spring and Summer are equally charming. I shall return to enjoy those seasons. There is a decent sized car park, toilet facilities and a tea room for drinks and light snacks.
Beautiful place for a day trip. We took the middle route and although sometimes the signs were a bit confusing, you're never lost. We went 2nd week of October which was just before most trees were changing colour but it was still beautiful and would recommend to others for some good exercise (there are some steep hills) and wonderful views. The cafe does great coffee/hot chocolate and sausage rolls too!
