Secluded spot, yet only few hundred yards from main road to Exmouth. Unusual little?house (for NT properties), great views over river estuary, lovely meadow and well worth a visit. Be sure to book (online or by fone) before you go, or you'll be turned away. Only 3 stars 'cos you can't go in due to pandemic.

A lovely National Trust property to visit. Pretty planting of tulips to greet you. Fascinating home of 2 spinsters, so much to look at. Thankfully there is a really good cafe under the house and fabulous outdoor tables with a view to die for. Next time I'll take a picnic and enjoy the orchard picnic area. Staff/volunteers all very friendly and helpful.
It may have been raining today but I enjoyed walking around the meadow and the bee garden. I treated myself to a new garden ornament. A happy day
Very unusual house with separate chapel a short walk away. Beautiful gardens with lovely estuary views. Very knowledgeable staff in the rooms in the house. Small cafe but delicious cream tea! Shame about the scaffolding but understand why it's necessary at the moment to repair the leak in the roof of the Shell Gallery.
A la Ronde is a fairly small but very unusual NT property. It's a sixteen-sided house built in the 1700s by two female cousins following their return from a European \grand tour\. They did a lot of the decoration themselves and, although the house has been altered over the years, a lot of that original decoration still survives. There's a stunning shell gallery at the very top of the house but unfortunately you can no longer see it up close because of the danger of damage. The sixteen-sided layout makes for some very interesting room shapes, like the small wedge-shaped library.
