This location benefits from a lack of other options. We were staying near Savage Harbour and needed some food items...Morell was the closest town and the Co-Op closed at 8pm. It was 8:11 when we arrived, so we continued on and saw this store, which was still open. The owner was pleasant and welcoming, but he smokes cigars and unfortunately the smell of the smoke permeates all the products, even altering the taste of some foods. After visiting for just a few minutes, our clothes smelled like smoke. 1 star for being more convenient than the Co-Op. I wish I could give 0 stars because of the cigars.

I hate to leave a 1-Star review for anything as I think it's pretty harsh... But I would do a 0 if I could for Jay's. The owner seems nice enough, store looks rough around the edges but I like to always see the hole in the wall shops. Upon entering it was clear the shop had fallen into disrepair. There was a very strong odor of feces and decay. Looking down I saw rat feces scattered across the first aisle I entered. I did one last scan of the random old DVD section and aisles in disbelief, and saw a large rat run across the floor into a hole in the wall. I informed the owner, he seems to maybe be not doing so well himself, and this shop has been this way for a long time. Lovely little town so don't let this place taint the image, but avoid at all costs and wait for the next day to get items from the COOP.
