The Morecambe Lifeboat station was established in 1859 and closed temporarily from 1930 to 1933. There were two stations between 1887-1892. RNLI Morecambe Lifeboat Station, Marine Road Central, Morecambe, LA4 5BY, Lancashire, England has an RNLI shop on site which is well-stocked with gifts and outdoor gear too. Morecambe station has a complement of two craft, a D Class and a Hovercraft. The RNLI inshore rescue hovercraft was introduced in 2002 and affords the opportunity to carry out rescue work on Morecambe's mudflats and sandbanks, areas that are inaccessible to conventional lifeboats and lifeboat crews.
