They don’t speak English and I don’t speak Portuguese but I know how to cook and this place is a little gem Traditional food, we had homemade soup to start, fresh sardines, and homemade chips with a mixed salad. Homemade fig cake and home made chocolate cake Great value , actually fantastic value for lovely fresh homemade food

This is a traditional, family run restaurant and cafe. Even though it serves traditional food, as a vegan I can get a fantastic meal here because the chef and owner, Fatima, understands my diet. It is the place in Monchique where I take family and friends because they can enjoy traditional Portuguese food and my wife and I can be well catered for. If you opt for the prato do dia (dish of the day), you will usually be offered a fish dish or a meat dish. Now here is an amazing fact: for 8 euros per person you get: Bread, olives, soup, main dish, dessert, coffee and a drink. The drink is one beer or a half litre of wine (per person) or a soft drink. The food is outstanding, the service most friendly. Some of the family speak English if you don't speak Portuguese a d Fatima can understand your order in English. If you decide to avoid this place based purely on a perceived language barrier, you will be missing a wonderful, traditional Portuguese experience. You will go around the corner to the square and eat at twice the price and half the enjoyment.
