Reading about this national museum at the backside of an map. It had directly our interest. Never been in a mine. And this was an opperunity I could not resist. With three departures per day. Starting from 14:30 we went early. The train you ride in is not for large crowds. So we were selected for the second ride of the day. No problem for the kids. With a big playground besides the starting point they were able to enjoy their self and we could sit in the sun. As said. The train is not very big. The ride takes about 30 min in witch you can see the inside of the mine and you can taste a glimpse of the past. Old trains and equipments are plased beside the track and there are point during the ride where you can look as far as you can in the other corridors. If you do not mind the noise made by the train on the track.... Please do go and visit this man made wonder where man worked hard and long days. Sometimes endagering their one lives.

Great experience and a must if you’re around Luxembourg City. Getting there is super easy and it’s cheap (I’d recommend getting a daily transport ticket), the museum ticket is about 9 euros. The tour that I did was in French but an English Audio guide was provided, and the tour guide did a great effort to explain in English all the questions that I had. The tour consists on taking a mine train that will take you about 2km inside the mine, and about 200m below ground, from there you continue on foot for about 2 hours, looking around different machines and seeing how the miners used to work years ago. Inside it’s like a time machine, you can get a sense on how the time passed, how the machines and mining techniques evolved in almost 100 years of history. If you forget to bring a jacket or coat, one will be provided since it’s about 10C (50f) inside.

Went here on advice of Tourists Information. It was closed. It only opens very infrequently. The kids play park is excellent and surrounding area nice. Would make good overnight parking spot.

Very fun and interesting museum, just call ahead to check for a tour in english or french because the 2 times I’ve visited, its has been in german and the audioguide they give you is not so interesting as the live guide!

Very interesting exhibition of tools and machinery used to extract and bring to the surface the iron bearing stones several decades ago, before rising exploitation costs and cheaper and higher grade ore from Brazil and other places forced the operations to an end. The ride on a service train along the galleries is very exciting. One must be reminded that deep under the mountain it is humid and cold and a warm jacket will be missed eventually since the visit lasts quite long.
