I was there in June. Came for breakfast. There was only 1 server - Veronica. She was awesome, but had the whole restaurant to herself. She’s only 1 person and can only do so much. We’re not needy customers but she barely had time to check on us. Again, nothing against her, she was handling the situation the best she could. Management needs to schedule more people. I get it’s a pandemic and everyone is trying to save, but you shouldn’t let service suffer. Food was ok, portions seemed scarce. The atmosphere is definitely cool though. I’d suggest checking it out, maybe not for breakfast though. If we’re ever back in the area, I’d give it another shot.

This was pretty bad. We’ve tried Mel’s several times and this was by far the worst experience. Online ordering “wasn’t working” however we were charged for the order just fine through the online system. Had to wait for the order to be made 30 minutes after ordering. Food came out rushed, burnt, eggs had a fishy after taste, the yuppie scramble came with about a pint of water in the bottom of the container which made the hash browns a soup. I understand there was a rush to fulfill the order however the food suffered. Also the way we ordered our meal and the way it was placed into the system since online ordering “wasn’t working” left us with less food and paying the same price. The 11 country fresh egg meal was then made into the French toast combo leaving us without a second order of hash browns (one for the country eggs and another for the yuppie scramble). The French toast and side of grilled potatoes were edible but lacking flavor. Severely disappointed in this experience, the other experiences have been ok but nothing that would make a customer recommend Mel’s to a friend. I understand I’m ordering breakfast from a diner and not a fine dining restaurant but for the price they charge, I expect more out of the food. We spent close to 60 for 2 people to have breakfast and we received less food than what we paid for. Already high prices combined with an incorrect order (less food than what was paid for) is unacceptable. There are plenty of great breakfast spots in Santa Monica with great food and better prices.
Delicious steak and eggs special, arrived at 5:50 am the waitress was nice enough to tell me that she could come back at 5:55 and let me get the special. That saved me over 10! The steak was a perfect medium rare and the eggs and potatoes were delicious as well. Coffee was tasty and my cup was kept full. Great food, open 24 hours and great staff make this a must stop if your in the Santa Monica area.
It was my last day in the USA and I wanted to experience an American diner and cherry pie! This place didn't disappoint! Great friendly service. Awesome atmosphere and delicious food. A great way to end my USA experience. Thank you! Side note. I walked to this diner following google maps. Don't walk along the road next to the highway Olympic Blvd. The homeless there were a little unsavoury towards me when I walked by.
Such a cute diner with great food options. Classic diner food, and their fries hit the spot. The restaurant is classy and full of room, and they have a fun fish tank In the front. Would recommend the fried chicken sandwich and fries! Definitely want to come back here when I’m drunk at 2 am for some good food and vibes.
