My dad was cared for here and the staff were extremely supportive for both my dad and me! They made him as comfortable as possible whilst he was there!

My relative was placed at Melbourne House late 2014 after a short spell in hospital. The manager at the beginning left very suddenly (don't know by her choice or not but nobody seemed aware she was leaving). A temporary manager followed with a new manager was in place approx a month later. We were not happy with the care and had to complain often about really quite fundamental things such as not having a water jug or glass practically each visit. Often no towel in the room and wrong laundry even though all items had name tags. Care was of a low standard with carers not wearing name tags so dementia residents had no idea who they were talking to. Residents often left to their own devices with very little stimulation or encouragement. On one occasion a man who was unable to walk without assistance was left in a chair on his own whilst the carer went into another room and looked at her mobile phone. He tried to get up from the chair and fell and was berated for moving. I could name several incidents which took place on a personal level but it is some time ago now and it's no good raking it all up. Suffice it to say I would not put anyone in this home.

My Sister in Law was admitted to hospital with lung cancer which was diagnosed as being terminal. As it was too far advanced to be treatable they requested that she should be transferred to a care home. I chose Melbourne House for the following reasons. The CQC assessment was good on all counts, the two managers seemed organised and caring, there seemed plenty of cheerful staff, the building had all en-suite and good communal areas, the adjacent health centre gives access to GP's, the location is good for buses and parking is adequate. My Sister in Law needed total care which she received in a caring manner. All the family would loke to thank the staff and would highly recommend Melbourne House
