The dal puri are great — soft, fresh flatbreads made with a layer of split peas inside. They’re served with a dollop of home-made curry and optional chilli sauce, all for just 1. Today I had the gateau piment (3 for 1) — small savoury fritters made from split peas, onion, spring onion, fresh coriander, and thyme. The owner is really nice and friendly too. It’s closed Mondays but open all other days, and well worth the short walk from West Croydon station (or get off the bus at the Sumner Road stop). Note that it’s a small stall, not a cafe, so be prepared to take your food away, though there is a bench just around the corner where you can sit to eat.

One of my top options in Boxpark and never let down by the food. This week was a lamb roti with the guyanese dhal puri option. It was a real delight with great flavours and spices. For sure it is not fast fast food and there was a wait for the guys to prepare and cook the roti. This is done with great banter and is always a pleasure. Had a lovely chicken roti, freshly prepared with all the extras it was beautifully soft and super spicy! The lady preparing it was very friendly and happy to answer my questions about Guyanese food. I would definitely recommend and will definitely be back!
