The accommodations and service at this hotel were excellent. We sent a woman to the Netherlands to see her father's grave for the first time, and were lucky to find Groot Welsden. The staff at Groot Welsden made them feel at home and welcomed them as if they were family! Special thank you to Sutti, whose communication and customer service was top notch.

My 1st trip to Margraten was in 2017 for the Memorial Day ceremony at the Netherlands American Cemetery. I received a warm welcome from Sutti & staff at the nearby Hotel Groot Welsden for a weeklong stay. When I decided to return this year for Memorial Day, I eagerly called Sutti to make my reservation. When you stay at Hotel Groot Welsden you quickly become a member of the family. I call it my Dutch home away from home. The hotel has an Old World charm. As in many local hotels in Europe, there is no elevator, but that wouldn’t stop me from staying there! My room is lovely with a garden view and well-suited for me. The delicious breakfast buffet is a perfect start before a day of exploring the countryside or visiting the American WWII military cemetery nearby (which is why I’m there). I just returned home but I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

This is a lovely friendly hotel in the perfect location for Christmas Markets and the American War Cemetery. The proprietor (Sutti) and her team made us feel very welcome and attended to our needs in a 5 star way (above the 3 star official rating). It is quiet and homely in a rural location on the edge of town. There is plenty to see with Aachen , Maastricht and Valkenbourg all being worth a visit day or night. It’s Olde World charm may not suit everyone however it will be difficult to beat the experience when compared to other guest houses and small hotels in this category.
