The owner is a sweetheart. Since coming back to New Jersey, I must say this is the best Italian I’ve had so far. 4.9 rating is selling this place short. Should be 5 stars across the board.
Wow ! Where do I begin? From the initial reservation I knew that this family owned establishment would impress my husband and I. Lana went out of her way to ensure we arrived without any navigation delays. As she greeted us, her and her staff provided superior hospitality and made us feel like family. The menu is full of generation year old recipes that will not disappoint. The portions are plentiful and more than reasonable. We will be returning !!! Meatballs are DELISH !!!!
When calling Mangiare tu today to make a same day reservation the owner Lana was very kind and patient with us over the phone. She took her time to answer any and all questions and made sure to fully explain the reservation policies and the menu change. Our entire experience was AMAZING! We were about 15-30 min early for our reservation and we were seated right away outside. We received COMPLIMENTARY lobster. That’s right COMPLIMENTARY! We then ordered the Fritto Misto which was outstanding. I’m very picky when it comes to calamari and let me tell you everything in this dish was perfection. I loved the inclusion of vegetables! Who would have known it was only going to go up from there. I ordered the #s2fd and my dad ordered the chicken parmagiana. My food looked so amazing I was scared to eat it and ruin its beauty lol both dishes were done impeccably with generous portions. I was completely stuffed but I had a feeling a place with food as good as this was going to have fantastic dessert and boy was I right. GET. THE. GELATO. I’m telling you, you can’t go wrong. The best part? Not only was the food a solid 5 stars so was the service! Lana herself walked around the entire time and conversed with guests. Her passion is obvious and her demeanor welcoming she went above and beyond. Our waitress was fantastic and very attentive. Between the two of them we were never left needing anything. I have never had true authentic Italian food at this level before. My experience here at Mangiare tu will always be at the top and I sincerely recommend everyone to GO AND EAT HERE. I really don’t know why there aren’t lines out door or reservations booked weeks in advance. This place is a must and we will definitely back.
Called to make a reservation... hostess was polite and said they were slow tonight, “what time would we like to come in?” She then asked for our credit card to hold a table. We called backed 40 mins before our reservation to cancel due to a babysitting issue and the hostess tried to tell us that we will be charged 25 per person. Interesting, when called to cancel, the owner said “did you tell them?” Which obviously she had not. This then turned into multiple disputes with the rude owner who hung up on both my wife and I and continued to deny that her hostess DID in fact tell us the policy and she was appalled at the fact we said her hostess said it was “slow” tonight. The BEST part of the story is that on the website the cancellation policy is actually 20 NOT 25. Maybe the issue is the hostess. This is unfortunate because we would have like to try this restaurant in the future.
