I often walk my dog in and around Didsbury Sports Ground and think it's definitely improved massively in recent years as far as the range of activities the grounds are used for and the problems there have previously been with drainage in the fields - which being so close to the river Mersey often can get quite waterlogged when it's rainy. Great place for playing ball with the dog when there aren't any games on and always lots of other dog walkers around, plus great access to cycle routes along the river bank and plenty of ways to extend walks into the surrounding Fletcher Moss Park, Millgate Fields and Old Bedians Rugby Club as well as along the river in the other direction towards Chorlton Water Park and Sale Water Park.
