We tried Mako’s Omakase to go boxes today and we were absolutely blown away. They are somewhat pricey, but for that price, what you get is extremely high quality. The fish was super fresh, expertly sliced and treated, the flavors were spectacular and even the presentation and packaging were fantastic. The charred crab meat was one of the highlights, as was the morsel of halibut, coated in the thinnest possible tempura layer and beautifully moist and flavorful. The sushi itself, both the sashimi and nigiri (we tried one of each of those two varieties) were great as well. What an experience... something we’ll try again!

It’s great experience and the food is great. Given the price point, I actually expect a better one. A few items we like the most: octopus, scallions crab are great. Rich and flavorful. Something are fair: the nigiri we found not too outstanding comparing to other premium sushi spot. Something we think need improvement: spring roll: the A5 wangu did not fit well to Thai flavor. If you want premium meat, maybe switch with premium shrimp. The pork belly, as good as any Cantonese restaurant in Chinatown. Overall it is nice but too expensive with fees.
My husband and I were supposed to actually be in Japan on our 2 year anniversary, but alas COVID, so we decided to treat ourselves to an evening at Mako. First, I want to say that the measures taken to ensure the safety of not just the diners, but the staff were impeccable. Well beyond what is recommended, but not enough to make the flow of service seem disingenuous or sterile. Now, the meal itself was out of this world. My husband got the drink pairing and said it was the best drink pairing he’s had with any meal ever. Every decision made by the chef was to showcase the fish. The knowledge of the servers and level of service was fantastic. I look forward to dining here again in the future!
We were lucky enough to be invited to a small birthday dinner here, and I am SO Thankful. It felt like an honor being there, and service was welcoming and homely. The food, just unreal. The best Japanese meal I've ever tasted, everything so simple yet complex, and thoughtfully created by the chef's mostly right in front of you. It was pricey I'm sure, but for a stunning dinner for a true special occasion, highly recommended.
If you're a fan of chef BK from Juno, then you'll have no problem of finding remnants of his flavors here at Mako. Recently opened and already a Michelin 1 star; well deserved at that. Dinner this evening was a collaboration dinner with a chef from the Alinea group, next. When French and Japanese come together, you get a whole new set of flavors. The overall experience was great and nothing felt rushed. Each dish is meticulously laid out in front of you and the chefs, themselves, would stop and explain each dish to you. This isn't their normal menu, but I have no doubt that his regular menu is anything short of amazing.
