The food is only surpassed by the service! Don Heberto , Fabiola, Mayra, and Jayson... treat you like esteemed family members. I travel all over the US and find myself lucky whenever I find Nicaraguan food. This is the best Nicaraguan food - outside Nicaragua - I’ve ever had. The menu is complete, the flavors are fresh and authentic, and the service is warm and efficient. If you are looking for some great Nicaraguan food, nice environment, and A service... give Portobanco’s a chance... you won’t be disappointed! PS: We came in twice and tried Tostones, Baho, Quesillos, Tajadas, Empanaditas de maduro, Nacatamal, and Buñuelos - all amazing!

Portobanco's was my first time trying Nicaraguan food. I was in the process of eating many Central American foods at the time, and I stopped by Portobanco's on one day. And it exceeded my expectations. The food here was fabulous. Everything I got here was good, and I got to sample a little of every of the popular and traditional Nicaraguan foods they had on the menu. The vigaron is a must try especially if you love soft, melt in your mouth beef with plantains. The pescado was also awesome since I love fried fish. I gotta say my favorite was the fritanga, since it was meat heaven. It had everything from steak to grilled shrimp, with some nice banana chips to add that crispiness. It was the perfect meat platter that was nicely chargrilled, and was fresh all around. The restaurant also had a parking lot in the back, which is a pro. The ambience is also pretty nice considering it's around the Mid-City part of Los Angeles. This is probably the closest thing to elevated Nicaraguan dining you can get in LA. In all, I recommend it, especially if you want a good first impression to Nicaraguan cuisine. I shot a YouTube video of my experience at Portobanco, which you can see on my channel called Rockstar Eater.
