The club was founded in 1996 by Olympian fencers Linda Strachan and Pierre Harper to show that anyone of any background with the talent and training can become a top class fencer. Their fencers are now taking medals at World Cup competitions and there are thriving mini-fence, junior, development and, more recently, Adult fencing groups. The club, which is foil only, runs a series of fencing competitions for children aged 7 to 15 known as the Newham Swords Challenge Series.
