Great classes - a range of courses from Colour Theory to wider general classes where Stephen will cover history and techniques too. Work very well over Zoom and great fun!

Stephen is a fantastic art tutor. I had the pleasure of meeting him while visiting my sister last September, and continued to join his courses by videoconference upon returning across the pond. I was terrified of trying oils, but with Stephen’s guidance, I’ve learned a whole new medium! Painting via videoconference on Saturday mornings has become an integral part of my weekly schedule (even before the pandemic), and the highlight of my week. Stephen is patient, intuitive, encouraging, and has a great sense of humour and an encyclopedic knowledge of artists and painting techniques. He encourages each student to find his or her own voice and to push the boundaries of their experience and comfort zone. I’ve grown in leaps and bounds as an artist since taking Stephen’s courses. I recommend him as a tutor without hesitation!

I have done classes in person with Stephen - as well as online during lockdown. He’s very knowledgable and supportive and helps create a very relaxed atmosphere for the classes. All advice is tailored to individual’s interests and abilities. Highly recommend.

I've had a couple of online master classes with Steve, and its been incredibly helpful. He is very skilled at gauging where you're at and responding to feedback, to pitch the teaching to your individual level. He has a natural curiosity which is everything, apart from the fact that he seems to have endless art reference knowledge. He is mentoring me with the creative side of my PhD, and I imagine would be a great tutor for people who are developing portfolios or art projects. Steve's given me lots of technical tips which I had no idea about, the sort of things where they seem so obvious after he's told you, its hard to believe you hadn't already picked up on them. Worth every penny, value for money, I will be continuing.

Great teacher for a really interesting course. It may all be via Zoom just now, but Stephen is very much a hands-on teacher. It is fascinating to see how his carefully-measured observations, comments, suggestions and hints enable his pupils to improve their work immeasurably while retaining their own character. I thoroughly enjoyed my course and will definitely be back for more.
