Good for kids
The town of Swartwout, used to be a pretty big deal. Founded in 1838 on the east bank of the Trinity river, it had a ferry crossing, a post office, a stagecoach stop, a school, a hotel, and warehouses for cotton and corn. The railroad actually killed the town and being under water from the building of Lake Livingston didn’t help either. (Ref. Texas Historic Commission)
