What a disappointment. A couple of weeks ago I decided one Monday lunchtime to treat myself to fish and chips from Downham Market's Little Chippy. I've had some really lovely lunches from there in the past, but, it seems, that perhaps a lack of customers due to Covid meant that standards had slipped. My box, when I opened it, contained a portion of hard, dry, obviously reheated chips - certainly not freshly cooked - and a piece of fish in soggy, oil soaked batter, that had also, apparently, not been freshly cooked. I guessed - but, of course cannot be sure - that as the chippy would have been closed on Sunday that my fish and chips had been cooked on Saturday and, not wanting to waste it, had been put in the hot cabinet waiting for some one (me) to buy it. I couldn't eat it. The gulls had the chips and the dogs had the fish between them for their dinner, they don't mind not having nice, fresh crispy batter on their fish. Me? I drove down the A10 and got a McDonalds. At least that was freshly cooked. The moral of this story is to make sure that your portion of fish and chips is freshly cooked before your very eyes.
