My low rating reflects how I feel about the way Lidl Merthyr Tydfil has responded to Covid 19. The store was packed full with people that made me very anxious. There was a female member of staff wearing no mask, filling the chiller cabinets with cold meats etc. She walk passed me so closely, she actually made me jump. She turned to look at me and said “I’m not that ugly am I?” And laughed. I reminded her respectfully of the 2 meter social distancing rules. She looked at me in disgust! I had my mask on and I obey the rules. The pre recorded message played continuously in store reminds us about social distancing. If the staff can’t set the example, there’s no hope in adhering to the rules. Staff training needs to implemented or managers need to sort their staff out. I won’t be returning as I didn’t feel safe there.

My first impressions of this particular store is its cleanliness and excellent layout of goods which are assembled in an easy accessible manner. e.g., all frozen foods, meat products and dairy products are easily spotted and therefore makes shopping that much quicker. Although checkout queues can be long I find getting through the tills quicker than most major supermarkets due to the excellent speed checkout staff approach their work.
