This sawmill was built in 1777. Over the years it was in a ruined state. In the 1980's a movement was created to restore the windmill in its current state. Since 1995 it is back in active service, cutting wood. It is open for the public between Wednesday and Saturday from 14:00 till 16:00

OMG this is the best place to visit in The Hague. It's only open limited hours so check. This is a fully operational wind saw mill. There's no entry fee ( but they happily take donations, although they don't hassle you for one ) and you can get a guided tour by one of the very friendly volunteers. Ground floor is the saw mill (fascinating in itself), but you also get to go up to the next two floors where all the magic is done. Huge gears, drive belts, shafts, thatch, and lots more. So hard to believe that much of the technology and engineering is some 4 to 5 hundred years old. I. Would suggest that every kid should see this stuff just to understand the implication of this invention. 25 percent of Holland is lower than sea level, so without these wind Mills Holland literally wouldn't exist as it does today. Probably hard to get to without a car, but worth the Uber price. You won't be disappointed with this side trip.
