My wife Jill & I, had the pleasure of experiencing the food & hospitality at Le Chalut, a little more than 4 years ago. I'm sorry I've waited 4 years to leave our review but had always intended to, as the forthcoming accolades were so well deserved at the time. We were staying nearby, googled restaurants, chose Le Chalut and will always be glad we did. What an experience! Such a very special night! I was keen for my wife, a first-time drinker, to enjoy the whole experience and the lovely owner serving us, indicated with just enough English and her lovely smile, that she understood what I meant. Exceptional hospitality, magnificent food, perfectly paired wines, and a very warm & welcoming ambience that surpassed all our expectations. We were not disappointed in any way. We brought a group of 45 Catholic pilgrims to 75th of D-Day and Shrines of France. We stopped in this town for three hours of free time. We chose Le Chalut because it was quaint and out of the way and a good menu. We were not disappointed and I’m convinced French food is the best! The seafood was excellent, the service was exceptional and we loved every minute of it and can’t wait to come back.
You don't have to trust other people's verdict on the food because we all have different taste at the time. But just look at the food if you could and it was a feast! The service was great and you also get mini dishes between the dishes that we ordered so it was really almost too much to eat. Don't order a lot if you're not hungry! Will def recommend it to anyone. Enjoy!
Very attentive service and fresh produce the food was very good but side dishes arrived late probably a bad day at the kitchen. The portion were big. So much. It is glorified seafood bistro
Unbelievable place. Slightly off the beaten track and away from the tourist carnage. A thoughtful wine list, great service and staff that want to try to talk English. Michelin star food at decent prices. Go go go...

Great fish restaurant in the heart of old St. Malo. Make reservations because there is a limited amount of tables. We had both a starter and a main course, but to be honest it was a bit too much. Wonderful meal. My wife had the scallop and crab starter. Thinly sliced scallops on top of a bed of shredded crab meat. I had a delicious mussel soup with a light curry flavoring. The lobster is not cheap. It is priced at 15 per 100 g as the lobster comes out of their tank. But you can see how fresh it is and the preparation is excellent. Very much enjoyed. The desserts were very good as well. Also an amuse bouche and an inter-messo. Coffee came with biscuits and a hibiscus preparation.
