Tapoch Broch is an iron age roundhouse that was once common in Scotland in pre-historic times. It was evening when I started the walk to the broch. It starts on a main road, then to cleared woodlands when the path leads to completed forested area. There's noticeably less light and it does feel quite eerie walking through all this. Fortunately, there's signs to let you know you're heading in the right direction. When I finally got to the broch, it was a huge disappointment. Yes, the round house was there. Whatever archaeological work had been done here 19th century as long since been undone by the overgrown state of the area. At first it appears the only thing left is the arched entrance. It was only when clambering over the overgrowth to the ound that you'll see the growth has covered the exterior wall of the round house and from the top you can see the circular chamber interior with two entrances. There's no interpretation or information here, so it feels like just looking at a poor man's version of Skara Brae.

Really nice walk and a very quiet place. Had a great day. Would like more information about the place, but was quite fun wandering round trying to work everything out.

What an amazing place to visit! The woods around it are brilliant and lovely how much of this ancient monument is still here.
