In August 2018 I purchased “Milly” series I. having seen her advertised by you in Country Life. Having serviced and checked her over, you brought her down to Surrey where she has been garaged and having the occasional outing. In preparation for this summer I had her serviced by Country Classic cars at Midhurst (prior to Covid 19). They report “You should contact the Land Rover Centre and make them fully aware of the condition we found this vehicle to be in when carrying out our assessment. Whilst time has passed since your purchase the rust and severity of the corrosion would not have happened during your custodian. The extent of the damage would have occurred many years ago and would have been evident: they should not have sold this vehicle to you in this condition. Even If “sold as seen” the vehicle was sold as roadworthy in fact it was dangerous and whilst MOT exempt had it been submitted it would have failed on the grounds of being unsafe. The severity of corrosion being so great in the event of a front-end accident the bulkhead would have severed from the chassis”. Photographic evidence is available. The corroded bulkhead had to be replaced together with the “A” posts and the footwells which had rusted through. Added to this, upon inspection it was found that the exhaust valve on cylinder one had only one part of the collet and was in danger of damaging the piston. If “Milly” had been sold as a vehicle requiring restoration and unfit for the road that would have been acceptable, but I paid for a vehicle you passed as roadworthy and I purchased her in good faith relying on your reputation as honest and reliable dealers. You will understand that I am particularly angry and upset that I allowed both my wife and children to drive Milly in such condition on the roads and I feel I am owed an explanation. To date I have heard nothing from the company.
