The water level in the lake has dropped sharply due to the severe drought that has affected it for many years. Due to this, many people from outside they are coming these days to see the rural ruins that existed before the construction of the lake. Asphalt roads have now emerged along with the ruins that existed before the construction of this reservoir about seventy years ago. As the evening progresses, a series of spectacular scenes unfold. The walls of the stone houses that rise as the water level recedes, the stairs used to enter the houses and the complete toilet that still remains tell us many ancient stories hidden at the bottom of the lake.

This is in the Hewainna. A village near Avissawella. Hidden in this beautiful village.
Still untouched by so called destructive development
One of the most wonderful forest reserves I've been into. Not much of a hike and you will have to cross a water steam In a small raft (a small charge included was 40 per person 2019 July ). And the office charge a ticket ( a small amount). The forest was rarely touched by humans and the water steams were refreshing to see. A good place for a low budget trip with a less amount of hiking with a gang. Leeches might be a problem in humid weather but precautions can be taken. On the top the water falls and the natural pools are a rewarding sight to see.
This where water board supply water to Colombo. Very nice place to visit.
