Nice hidden gem, well worth a visit, fantastic views of the river. Ideal spot for a coffee break.

We started walking to find the Knaresborough viaduct. The road we took led us down to the railway station. It was then a very long & steep descent towards the river Nidd. It was well worth the effort. The views were wonderful. We were lucky as the weather was a perfect summer's day. There's a small boat hire company that has a terraced cafe nearby. We settled for some local homemade ice cream from a shop also close by. We then walked back up towards the Castle. Pleased to say this was a much shorter route. The castle is a beautiful ruin overlooking the river. There is a bowling green with benches to sit & take in the whole atmosphere of the place yet just yards from the town centre & police station!

Stunning views to the bridge and the weir. Plenty of space and benches to rest and enjoy. Paths to walk down to the river on either side, the one through the garden a less steep and uneven

How could you not love this beautiful castle? On top of the hill overlooking Knaresborough bridge and the surrounding countryside. Fantastic to just sit and watch .

The experience is amazing, you stand on the grounds of the ancient places and see the architecture that has stood for centuries. I found a memorial that bore my family’s sir name. I hope to learn there lineage and see if there could be a connection. Don’t stop short the walk down to the river and the small pub( restaurant) below is a really fun hike.
