What is it about flames licking over seasoned logs? We had missed having ‘a real fire’ and were delighted to discover just how far wood-burning stoves have come in the last few years. A visit to Kindle Stoves, just west of Bath, was a revelation. Firstly, the showroom was a delight. Then there was someone to talk to there who REALLY knew his stuff. No hard sell, just knowledge and a deep understanding of how to ensure the right product for our needs. The options can be overwhelming but not when guided by an expert. Our home was then inspected and plans put in place. That’s a key moment and immensely reassuring. The construction process itself was another example of why it’s wise not to be fooled by amateurs promising to do the job cheaply. Kindle Stoves ensured we had meticulous professionals with a great work ethic: scaffolding went up the day before, then the guys themselves brought the stove and flue and mountains of kit, arriving on time, keeping everything as tidy as possible during the work, fitting the stove itself, fire-proof materials, the granite surround and a carbon monoxide monitor, all with absolute precision. How to light this new wonder was then explained and we tried out fires for just an hour over the next couple of days. Simply wonderful. Yes, the up-front costs need careful thought and, in our case, plenty of saving-up beforehand. But soon that will be forgotten and we will have years and years and years of pleasure. I can’t recommend this highly enough: a wood-burning stove is glorious and Kindle Stoves deserves your custom.
