Wan Tan Mee @ Kwong Ban Lee Café, Penang With a simple hawker store set-up, Mr Albert and Mrs May diligently prepare their Wan Tan Mee for eager guests daily. I dine in Kwong Ban Lee Café often, and not rarely do I see commonfolk of all races (even Ang-mo lang also) getting take-aways from this store. There is a story behind Mr Albert and Mrs May's passion for Wan Tan Mee, which spans over the past 9 years. Initially opening their first stall about a decade ago in Chowrasta market, they struggled to make ends meet. 'The 1st year was terrible'. Mr Albert further describes that the Wan Tan Mee initially served was not up to par. Help came from most unexpected circumstances however. A 'Sifu' of Wan Tan Mee who still is running his stall in Dato Keramat road decided to go the extra mile to teach this lovely couple of his trade. Sifu would come every fortnight just to sample the consistency of the noodles. Soon it became a monthly visit, till he finally rarely came. Mrs May's brother who also has been selling Wan Tan Mee spent time with them on perfecting their trade. What we have today is a fusion of both the recipes from Sifu and Mrs May's brother, and it's delicious. They've weathered through the pandemic, with support coming from locals and expatriates. Besides the Wan Tan Mee, they serve Chicken Feet with Mushroom, only on weekends. It's apparently a Thai style of cooking, where the skin of the chicken feet still remain intact. Again, the Thai style also applies to their dumplings. It's made fresh daily, in which customers are seen to be really enjoying it. Give this Wan Tan Mee stall a go. It's authentic food coming from a lovely couple with a passion for noodles.

Neighbourhood coffee shop serving coffee, toast bread and boiled eggs. The stalls are Char Hor Fun, Wan Tan Mee and Nasi Kandar. All food stalls are good but limited. Coffee used to be good but it's on the downside now. It can get busy in the morning when the crowd flocks in.
