A ️ We had only planned to hire a driver for one day but we decided to “upgrade” to 12 days. Although a big expense relative to food/ budget accommodation we decided it was very reasonably priced and would provide many benefits ... 1. Ability to travel quickly and hence visit more places 2. Ability to leave & arrive whenever suited us rather than depending on train/ bus time-tables 3. Ability to stop at interesting places en route to key destinations 4. Option to leave large rucksacks in car when we completed short hikes/ temple visits etc. 5. Not having to waste time on travel logistics – as we booked last minute and had not been organised on transport/ route planning! 6. Travelling in comfort and escaping heat with air conditioning We were extremely happy with our decision to hire Wasi as a driver - he is interesting, kind, generous (i.e. he bought a delicious cake to celebrate my Birthday / tissues for when I got sick ), patient and funny – and we were genuinely really sad to say goodbye at the Airport as felt like we were leaving a friend. We cannot recommend him enough (he speaks good English, is always on time, communicates well, is flexible re itinerary and last minute changes, told us about great places we had not heard of (less touristy rock to climb in Sigiriya/ off the beaten track waterfalls to swim in, amazing Hindu Temples to join in ceremonies etc.), he did not drag us along (for commission) to any places we did not wish to visit and he helped with lots of logistics (like finding a hiking guide for the Knuckes range, locating a place for us to hire bikes in Anuradhapura & purchasing our Ella to Kandy train tickets in advance to ensure we got a seat). Overall A and we would recommend 100%. Hope to stay in contact Wasi (and hope your wife reacted well to your snazzy new ear piercing !!)
