My Google Review # 000032. Been here during my stay in Kandy. Batik museum/ Batik factory will be in every traveler's list or tourist agency's proposed schedule. In realty, it is a small workshop located in every part of Kandy, where they use wax and color (and some chemicals, of course) to give a different perspective to cloth making. We spent an hour here to understand the procedures which was shown around to us very patiently, by the lady manager. It was definitely informative on our part. Liked it. The variety of products kept here and pricing is not what I would suggest anyone to go for, without a tough bargain. I personally, didn't pick up anything, but, I am sure the prices are quite steep. Good luck and enjoy. Date of Experience : March 2019.

This place is the epitome of creative batiks in my opinion. Not mass produced. Every piece is carefully created, designed and hand made. Anyone visiting the showroom gets a glimpse of how the Batiks are made and a look in to some work in-progress. I find this as an indication of the authenticity and high integrity of a business. Prices vary from affordable to exclusive high-end. There is something for everyone. Highly recommended for all kinds of visitors. A one-stop shop for your Batik needs, some knowledge into the trade as well as a glimpse of the cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. If you are visiting Kandy, do stop by this place for a memorable experience. Please note: Photography and video filming is not allowed in the shop. Mine were taken with permission from the appropriate authority. So please ask the staff if you need to capture something. They are very friendly and accommodating.

The shop is nice, and you get a good introduction to the process of making the color print. The dresses and print painting are all handmade. Be aware of the prices. They are not cheap so make sure you bargain for a good price before they start finalizing the dress or image for you.

TOURISTS BEWARE: We ended up buying two sarongs. I wore mine once around the hotel and the next day I noticed all the stitching had come undone. Some parts of the sarong had not even been hemmed properly at all. It's literally falling apart. We paid 145 AUD for 2 sarongs, and I would say we were most definitely ripped off. I was happy to pay for quality - but quality this is not. Be forewarned, you need to check the quality BEFORE payment. I could easily have got something of this quality at home for 25 tops. Saddened by the experience in hindsight. EDIT: Sent two emails - no response. This company has no interest in being honest. AVOID BUSINESS AT ALL COSTS.

The place has a lot of great prints but the clothes are very very expensive. If you are a tourist I wouldn't recommend the place as a tourist spot. The only things I liked there were the paints they had which were costly as well. So if you skip this place as a tourist it's alright. Unless you want to but something that had a batik print.
