Nice local family run restaurant. We were made to feel very welcome despite the staff not speaking much english. Food was great, would be 5 stars if not for being a little on the expensive side, which we found out when the bill came as no prices on the menu!

Awesome tuna sashimi. Loved jibuni! Very welcoming of foreigners with little Japanese. With umeshu, 6 pieces of sashimi, total 5,500 yen - cheap!
Foreigners not welcome. I wanted to try this place because Kanazawa is known for its oden and it was convenient- close to my hotel. However, the chef and server both stopped me as soon as I walked in and promptly asked me to leave because I didn’t speak Japanese. I offered to use a translator on my phone but they said no. It’s a shame, because I’ve had so many positive experiences in Japan... avoid this place.
It's called Shimuji. Was recommended here by lovely staff at UAN Hotel. Check the photos to be sure you go to the right spot - there are other places nearby. Food was delicious. Oden, tempura, sashimi, jibuni - we had 5 or 6 dishes to share. Cost 5000 incl sake - I found it good value. Not much English spoken but they have an English menu (although I don't think everything they have is on it) . Really nice, friendly staff and chef. A genuine local place. Definitely worth a visit.
夕飯で利用。ここは素晴らしい。 蓮根の天ぷらは絶品だし、牛すじ煮込みも味がさっぱりしていて食べやすいし味付けもクセになる。金沢おでんも薄味だが味はしっかりついており、だしの風味も良かった。 今回は刺身を注文し忘れたが、次回は刺身もぜひ頂きたい。 大将や女将さんの人柄も素敵だなと感じました。 ありがとうございます。
