Great place for sunset viewing. Can consider coming here via free shuttle bus from Syntagma square if you have spare time in Athens :)
Large beautiful building.
Definitely worth the visit as for the library and for the area. In the evening there is a short “water show”
In just one word AMAZING
Of course this is the best library in Athens if not in Greece, as it is the newest if I m not mistaken. Clean, bright, in a stunning environment and with fast internet. Nonetheless, it seems that more focus had been paid in its design rather than its practicality. The library is small. Perhaps, for Greek standards one would say it's big, but for a library and a national one, it is actually small. What was striking is that the available spots are limited. There are more couches and armchairs with low level tables than desks. I don't see how one can work on a couch for hours by bending constantly. Additionally the amount of plugs is limited too. Another element that surprised me, was not the loud conversations of visitors ,rather the staff of the library itself who encouraged loud speaking with their high volumed voices while roaming through the library. Last but not least, the information desk was not able to provide information such as \is there access in an online library at the computers?\. Overall, I would recommend this library if one wants a change of scenery but doesn't have high expectations. O
The new building of the National Library of Greece was funded by Stavros Niarchos Foundation and was designed by Renzo Piano. The total surface of the building is 23.000 sqm and it houses more than one million books, magazines and rare manuscripts from 9th century. The library is open to the public every day and there are comfortable reading spaces and computers to read digital editions or to surf the Internet. WiFi is available everywhere. It is part of Stavros Niarchos Cultural Centre and there is free shuttle bus from Syntagma square. Highly recommended place!
Beautiful, modern library with many quiet places to sit and read or study.
