Tagore's place!! The museum beautifully showcases Tagore's life and works. Any Tagore lover can spend 4 or 5 hours easily going through the various galleries displaying Tagore, his family and artifacts from various countries that he visited over the years. The museum in recent times has expanded the number of galleries and they well maintained. There's really a lot to see here and one can visit this museum again and again if only to be inspired by The Guru's life and works.

It is the house in which the poet and first non-European Nobel laureate, Rabidranath Tagore was born. It was built in the 18th century by Prince Dwarkanath Tagore (Rabindranath Tagore's grandfather). It is currently located on the Rabindra Bharati University campus at 6/4 Dwarakanath Tagore Lane Jorasanko, Kolkata 700007. Distance between Howrah Railway Station and Jorasanko Thakur Bari is 5Km and from Sealdah Railway Station approx 3Km. It offers details about the history of the Tagore family. Rabindra Bharati University organizes regular cultural programmes on the poet’s birthday, Panchise Baisakh, and on other occasions, such as his death anniversary, Baishe Shravan. Every room, every picture, every object in this place has his memory associated with them. The atmosphere was very peaceful. There are two new galleries - about Poet's association with Japan and China. Jorasanko Thakurbari is a historical and cultural treasure in Kolkata. Must visit it.

If we are talking about Bengal and it's literature, then the first name which came into our mind is the versatile genius Sir Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore passed his whole life in Jorasanko Thakurbari. In this house not only Rabindranath Tagore but also his grandfather Prince Dwarakanath Tagore, his father Sri Debendranath Tagore and his elder brother Sri Abanindranth Tagore spent their lives. There is a museum within this house from where you can know more about Rabindranath and his life, his contribution towards our society, to our world literature. In this museum you can know more about our ancient Kolkata and the unknown history of Tagore family. At evening you can enjoy a light and sound show of Tagore family and british era with the bilingual voice of Gulzar and Soumitra Chatterjee. If you love poetry, literature, Rabindranath and Bengal you should visit this place.

Amongst the institutions in Jorasanko are – Adi Brahmo Samaj, the Jorasanko Bharati Natya Samaj, the Kalikata Haribhakti Pradayani Sabha, the Minerva Library and Oriental Seminary. Rabindra Bharati University, the third university in Kolkata, was set up in 1962 in the Tagore family's house at Jorasanko, primarily as a centre for music and fine arts, but extended subsequently to arts and humanities.
